Hoof Care
As a trainer and behavior specialist I have diagnosed and solved problems and discovered that many of the behavior issues that horses experience simplifies down to pure and simple foot pain. I was tired of teaching them to manage their pain and it was time to address this issue head on. I took over the hoof care of 35 horses several years ago and have spent countless hours studying in this field. I am currently in the process of officially finalizing my Practitioners License with (PHCP) Pacific Hoof Care Practitioners which should be complete by June of this year. I am maintaining my hoof trim practice throughout this process. This is a rigorous program that has had me traveling to Reno NV, Santa Rosa CA, Shingle Springs CA, Inyokern CA, Las Vegas NV since last summer for required fields of study and courses in such things as Anatomy and Dissection, X-Rays and Radiology, Nutrition and Feeding, Booting & Casting, Study of the Wild Horse Feet and more. I have read reams of papers and books and reports. This is an exciting field of study as its time has come to the surface now and finally many studies and beta tests and scientific experiments are there for us to draw upon. We have the tools now to core sample and test our hays for equine needs (not cattle needs as in the past) and to balance their diets and nutrition for the best results for our equines.
Horseman's Hangout is an official distributor of Easy Care Boots. At Horseman's Hangout, Marcia keeps an inventory of Easy Care boots to help certain hoses transition from shod feet to barefoot living. Boots are advised for some barefoot horses that travel on hard ground or compete in long races. They can be thoroughly effective. Last year, a booted horse won the coveted Haggin Cup at the 2010 Tevis Cup. In this race, horses cover 100 miles in one day in California.
